Why study at GAMA instead of a private studio?

Enrolling at Greater Austin Music Academy gives advantages you often cannot find in a private studio. These include:

  • A variety of faculty, instruments, and styles. At GAMA we have a broad faculty of experienced teachers which means you can find an ideal fit for you without extended legwork and hassle.
  • Professional recitals, master classes, and opportunities you won’t find anwhere else. All students at our school are invited to play in our recitals which are hosted twice a year in a professional setting. These recitals, along with our other group events, are included in your monthly tuition. Because of our history in the profession, we are able to offer unique opportunities such as master classes with world famous artists, studio class at the KMFA 89.5 radio station, and many other opportunities you won’t find in most private settings.
  • A history of excellence. Our director has been teaching for nearly two decades and has worked in the music education business with literally all levels and types of students. Because of this we are able to provide in-depth, knowledgeable guidance based on your unique goals.
  • A warm, professional environment. In a school setting you are free from interruptions, text messages, phone calls, etc. Because our teachers are free from the scheduling and paperwork of a private studio, they are able to concentrate on teaching!

Read more about what makes our school unique on our “Why Choose Us?” page.

What teaching methods are used?

All of our teachers have extensive experience and are able to craft lessons to suit each student. Teaching methods range from various traditional classical approaches to modern standards; familiar methods such as Faber and Suzuki; and even improvisational and jazz/pop/rock styles.

We are committed to making sure your teacher and teaching style is the perfect match for you, your needs, and goals.

What can I expect at a first lesson?

At your first lesson, you will get to meet your teacher, who will take the time to get to know you and/or your child, as well as your unique needs and goals. While the exact content of a first lesson varies with each situation, if you are a complete beginner you can likely expect to start by learning some basic musical concepts. If you are bringing your child for lessons, you are invited to sit in on lessons or you are welcome to relax in our waiting area.

Our teachers are consistently reviewed as friendly, professional, and encouraging!

Do you teach adults?

Yes! We have many adult students at our school of all levels, including complete beginners. When we say we teach all levels and styles, we mean it!

How do you choose your teachers?

All of our teachers are chosen from an in-depth interview process. We select teachers with incredible education, teaching experience, and performance credentials. Our teachers have advanced degrees or many years of proven excellence in teaching and performance. We only select teachers who are warm and encouraging and are dedicated to inspiring a love of music in their students.
